SmartPill is a disposable, ingestible capsule you swallow at your physician’s office. The capsule travels through your GI tract and wirelessly transmits data to a recorder worn on a belt clip or lanyard. The data collected by SmartPill allows your physician to evaluate your entire GI tract without using radiation.
UsesSmartPill offers a convenient, non-invasive method to measure important information related to various gastrointestinal symptoms. It is often used to evaluate motility, or the muscle contractions that help push contents through the GI tract. The data collected allows health providers to determine if and how symptoms are related to conditions such as chronic constipation and gastroparesis.
Because SmartPill is a non-invasive procedure and does not require sedation, you are able to resume most of your daily activities after swallowing the capsule. However, there are steps you will need to follow in preparation for your procedure, including the discontinuation of certain medications.
You should not eat anything for 12 hours prior to swallowing the SmartPill capsule.
